The main directions of scientific and technical activity of the institute:

  • creation of new and improvement of existing technologies for the extraction of iron ore, non-ferrous metal ores, rare earth and precious metals by open and underground methods;
  • selection of rational solutions for mining operations, promising limits of opencast mining, taking into account the world market conditions;
  • development of methods of extraction of manganese ores, refractory and flux materials and other non-metallic raw materials;
  • integrated use of mineral raw materials in order to diversify production;
  • research and development of methods for testing man-made deposits;
  • creation of methods for managing rock pressure, rock strikes, rock displacement, stability of mine workings, quarry sides and dumps;
  • conducting a set of studies in geology and hydrogeology, rock physics and surveying work in mines, geological and economic revaluation of iron ore deposits;
  • creation of methods and technologies for drainage of deposits and protection of ore massifs from secondary flooding;
  • development of methods of environmental protection from man-made pressure of mining enterprises;
  • development of methods of reclamation of land affected by mining;
  • assessment of the technical condition of mine shafts and mine workings in quarries;
  • aerology and ecology of deep quarries;
  • monitoring the seismic impact of mining activities on the environment, monitoring the level of seismic fluctuations and the effects of shock air waves during mass explosions in quarries and mines;
  • monitoring the negative impact of economic activities of iron ore enterprises on the environment;
  • technical and economic and market research activities of mining enterprises of Ukraine, monitoring and analysis of the market situation in the domestic and foreign markets of iron ore;
  • conducting marketing research of markets for mining products;
  • development of issues of MMC enterprise development strategy and assessment of risks of its non-fulfillment;
  • project support of research works, project management;
  • improvement and optimization of technologies of extraction, processing and enrichment of minerals;
  • examination of patent materials;
  • coordination of scientific and design work in the field of mining in Ukraine.
